Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club First Team v Kirkbrae on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at 1pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 62 runs

Match report Carnegie welcomed the badgers of Kirk Brae to fortress Pitreavie on Saturday. Mitch won the toss and put the badgers into bat

Gav and Butch opened up for the 2nd week running, with Butch pre match aiming for a charge up the league. Sadly for him, he suffered a sore looking calf injury in his second over, and had to retire for the game to put ice on the injury.

Our 12th man was called from, but as he was in "Tillicoultry" (near Stirling), Kirk Brae sportingly provided a substitute fielder for the time it took him to make his way to the ground.

Gav picked up a wicket with another pearler delivery. Gav is now specialising in bowling indifferently, before stunning the batsmen with a ball of different class

Kirk Brae always attack from the start, and after 10 overs had 50 runs.

Mitch tied them up with a bowling display of the highest order in terms of consistency and accuracy - 10 overs with 7 maidens - the last six consecutive. A cracking return, but at drinks Carnegie needed to start to take wickets in order to restrict Kirk Brae's total.

Bongo was making his seasons Saturday debut, and was first change. He had more swing than a jazz club, and once under control, caused some concern for the batsmen.

Harris wasnt quite up to his usual consistency, this perhaps caused by a Friday night in Porky's.

Bruce and Gav faced the challenge of bowling towards the death, and although Bruce did lose his temper at one point, he did well, as both batsmen were scoring well.

The end of the innings sparked a frenzied rush for runs, and this allowed Ally to pick up a couple of wickets, with a cracking catch by Gav at long off the pick of the pair.

Harris bowled the final over, with the score already on 202. A triple wicket maiden! Suicide running, and some better bowling from a now near sober egg chaser. Special mention to the number 9, who came charging out after a catch to the non strikers end, and then ran all the way back after being run out by his team mate for 0 not faced!

203 for the win, and Walker and Lafferty opened up.

Lafferty belted the ball to the longest boundary, and the pair picked up another all run 4, to the wild and spontaneous cheers from the gallery.

Sadly, Lafferty fell shortly after, to be followed by a Hen in the duck pond, as John gloved a ball to gulley, before he got off the mark.

Harris and Nelly then put on a small partnership, before Harris was found LBW from the first change bowler.

This brough Mitch in, but before he got the chance to get going, Nelly lobbed another catching practice effort to mid off. Out for the same way two games on the bounce.

Muzz, then Mitch fell in the pond, and Carnegie went from 41 for 2 to 41 for 5 in two overs.

Carnegie looked done and dusted, but Bongo and KP had different ideas, they pushed and nurdled together a good looking partnership as Carnegie went looking for a batting point. Then Carnegie accelerated up to the 100 mark, before Ally was ran out.

Bruce then joined KP, and maintained his recent good form with a fine shot to get off the mark. KP and Mr Forsyth then took Carnegie up to the 120 mark with 12 overs remaining, and an unlikely late charge for victory was not entirely impossible. Sadly, KP then fell, and Gav was last man in, with Butch unable to walk due to his injury.

Gav started to pile on the runs with Bruce and with 36 balls left, Carnegie needed 60 to win. Sadly, Gav was then bowled when chasing runs, and the Badgers had their win

Too little, too late from Carnegie with the bat this week. Onto Edinburgh South next week.
