Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club First Team v Broomhall on Sat 31 Jul 2010 at 1pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 83 runs

Match report A depleted Carnegie side put up a spirited effort against Broomhall at Pitreavie on Saturday. Carnegie were missing Mitchell (at a barbecue), Wauchop (in Crete), Ross (small bruise on shin), Pringle (basketball), Urolagin (basketball) and Honeyford (train spotting trip). Acting skipper Lafferty won the toss and elected to field under grey skies. Murray stuck early trapping Seath LBW for a duck. This was as good as it got for Carnegie as Greenall and Bell piled on 188 for the second wicket. Carnegie tried a number of bowlers but only Murray managed consistent threat and control. Greenall was dismissed for 98 brilliantly caught by Neil 'Happy' Harris on the long on boundary - Happy was under it all the wasy until the last second when he fell over backwards. Bell was bowled by Callan as Carnegie fought back in the second half of the innings. Philp and Callan bowled very well and deserved a wicket each. At halfway Broomhall looked set for a huge total of 320 plus but a determined and hard working effort by Carnegie in the field limited them to 266-5.

In reply Carnegie lost Harris early doors but Lafferty played a number of stunning attacking shots to make an improbable victory look likely. Lafferty was unfortunately run out by a direct hit when he had reached 26. Nelly managed to run himslef out in the most ridiculous of circumstances - hitting a bump ball to mid wicket and staring at the umpire as the throw came back and rattled his stumps. Butch, so often the saviour, was out for a second ball duck - hopefully he has not decided to join the 'Race to the Duck Pond'. Muzz came and went before 'Flash' Gordon and Hen Broon put together an excellent partnership of 50 odd. Flash thumped 5 boundaries before being bowled for an aggressive 32. John was eventually caught behind for 48, Bruce came and went just like his brother for 11. All of this was merely the warm up for a welcome return to form for Bob Hunter who 'stroked' his way to a majestic 17 not out to guide Carnegie over the 175. Bob was given instructions to have a swing off the last over which he duly did, the result was a maiden.

Lots of positives can be taken from todays game such as the bowling of Butch, Flash and Bruce Almighty. The batting of Hen Broon, Flash and Bob was impressive. The attitude and application in the field was really good in trying circumstances - Harris only kicked the ball away once!! Batting wise batting the 50 overs was a good effort and normally 184 will win you a game!!

Man of the Match was 'Flash' Gordon and TFC was Nelly.

Peebles next week.
