Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Midweek 8 a side v Kinross on Tue 29 Jun 2010 at 6.30pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Won by 3 runs

Match report THE Kinross Super Kings rolled up at sunlit Pitreavie no doubt hoping to repeat previous straightforward victories over Carnegie.

But they were soon to find out that the Cheetahs are made of sterner stuff than the Comets.

After a bit of dressing-room democracy, Muzz was elected skipper, promptly won the toss and decided to bat.

Goody and Lindsay were dispatched to the middle and, after a couple of classic, front-foot-out-of-the-way T20 slashes, Goody was first to go - clean bowled.

Old Phil was next up and made eight before lofting the ball towards square leg, where a less-than-mobile fielder made a half-hearted attempt to reach it before sticking an arm out in desperation and making a one-handed catch - much to his own surprise.

Bongo was next up - and next to join the race to the duckpond after a classic Pitreavie popper saw the ball loop off his bat for a simple catch.

Don "Bradman" Whalley joined Lindsay at the crease and, after the opener ran himself out for 30, proceeded to show that 10 isn't as hard to get as some would have you believe by romping into double figures. Bob Hunter, however, didn't follow suit and made heavy weather of his nine before skipper Muzz (12)  and Sunday's batting hero Kev (8) took the Cheetahs up to a respectable but unspectacular 89 for six.

In reply Bongo, from the Bell end, bowled a fearsome spell including two maidens and a smack in the chops for one of the Kinross batsmen but somehow ended without a wicket.

The Cheetahs were excellent in the field with catches going to Old Phil, Bongo, Bob and keeper Don as the Super Kings were kept under intense pressure with any number of close calls in the run out stakes.

A superb spell of spin in the middle overs from Kev with a wicket, a maiden and just 10 runs conceded left Kinross with a big task to reach the target.

That task became even tougher when Bob picked up an lbw which was either only half forward and just below the knee or well down the wicket and far too high depending on whether you were the umpire or those disputing the decision - several of Bob's team-mates. Bob, unsurprisingly, maintained it "was absolutely plum."

A run out almost sealed the deal and, with skipper Muzz bowling leg spin at the death and four required to tie off the last ball, the tension mounted.

A high looping delivery that looked suspiciously like a no-ball was swatted away for a single by one of the Kinross youngsters and the Cheetahs went off to cheers of the huge crowd (Mr and Mrs Walker and Lynsey).
