Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 30 runs
Match report
Skipper JP got the Cheetahs off to a good start by winning the toss and electing to bowl. Broomhall were expecting to bag a big score, which clearly riled Carnegie into a fine performance in the field.
On a warm sticky evening the Cheetahs turned to their international, Bob Scotland, to open the bowling from the Golf course end. Gordon got the short straw and opened up the hill, charging in off a four step run up. Six overs went by with Gordon very unlucky not to bag a couple wickets. Bobs last precious was saved till later, leading to the introduction of youth – Charlie Basher Denton. Basher bowled a terrific spell bagging two wickets whilst Gordon finally got a deserved wicket from his last over. Gordon was replaced by Carnegie’s form man – KP. KP’s bravely flighted spin bagged him a a wicket during a tough spell when Broomhall were starting to swing the bat. With Basher’s overs bowled out it was time for the secret weapon to trundle in from the Golf course end – Owais. Owais’ first two balls yielded two wickets and had the skipper held on to his catch - Owais would have finished with three wickets from his spell. Muz bowled the penultimate over from the Masterton end, softening up the batsmen for Bob Scotland’s final over.
Had that last catch been taken Broomhall would have been all out for 112, as it was they went on to finish on 143. A near flawless effort in the field from the Cheetah’s backing up some excellent bowling.
The Cheetah’s sent out Muz and Bob to open the innings. It looked ominous at first as Muz turned his first ball round the corner straight at a fielder – who dropped it. Muz would make him pay for that! Bob fell for 6 bringing Gordon to the crease. Gordon and Muz put on a few before Gordon fell. This brought Owais to the crease who hit one straight before being bowled. Muz was now beginning to splay the ball around and was joined by Basher who had as good a day with the bat as he did with the ball carving out a chanceless 12. Muz retired on reaching his 50 to be replaced by KP, who having made much of his slow run-rate got twelve of the last few overs. At the end of 20 overs the Cheetah’s had made 106.
A close game played in sticky conditions.
TFC goes to the skipper – he was the only player to make a mistake
Basher pipped Muz to the MOM for his efforts with bat and ball.
