Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost 8 wickets
Match report
The Don led his band of merry men to Kirkcaldy for a friendly versus Dunnikier. A perfect day for it, sun splitting the sky and a cool breeze. Perfect high scoring conditions!
The Carnegie Comets opened brightly with Bongo and Muz putting a few on the board before Muz fell victim to a vicious bounce and and was caught off Hassan.
Bongo went for LBW, so in came John Parsnips looking for a big score. Despite looking the part with some deft defensive strokes, the Milky Bar Kid was found lacking a few yards of pace and was run out with a well crafted 1 on the board.
In strode Captain Walley looking to steady the ship. Skip didn't hang around too long and was ruled out, off a snick, by Umpire Muz. The Comets Disciplinary Panel will have a close look at the match footage after suggestions of dissent by the Carnegie Captain!
Monty came and went without a whimper, caught off Kanti for a quack, Bream came into the crease and fired an effortless 5 before being caught and bowled by George.
This brought together the Dream Team of Walker and Hunter, Carnegie's Scotland Internationalist. Only 24 hours before, they'd gallantly failed to pull Carnegies first string out the mirein Edinburgh. In the Kirkcaldy sun, they looked a class apart before Walker was cruelly bowled for a stylistic 4.
Hunter showed his class, stroking a lovely 8 runs and shepherding Viggy through the remaining overs without any further loss of wicket. It really was textbook stuff.
After a short break, Dunnikier took the field with a couple of their big guns and knocked a few balls around the park, reaching their target in about 17 overs.
The Carnegie faithful hung around, with the exception of Muz who headed home for a nap, not having been to his bed from the night before! A couple of enjoyable pints and some fine banter underlined the purpose of our Sunday friendlies.
Heres to the next one on 27/6! (update your availability folks - Bream, mind and tell the wife, I can't promise to work my magic again next time!)
Over and out!
