Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club First Team v Carlton 3 on Sat 09 Jul 2011 at 1pm
Match was Abandoned @ Tea after Carnegie score 139
Match report
Carnegie were put into bat as the storm clouds gathered overhead after cobbling together 11 players following half the teams decision to prefer “The Saturdays” at T in the park to the deep joy of leather on willow.
Flash and Neil “Braw” Harris opened with Braw playing his familiar “batter over the top” shot which yet again fell to a fielder for 0. Quack Quack.
David “Don’t call me Dopey” Miller joined Flash in the middle and set about the Carlton bowlers. He looked good until he played a ‘seven drawfer’ of a shot and headed back to the pavilion. Flash continued to bat away and was beginning to look good when a “glove onto stump” effort cost him. Captain Butch again started well but got caught by a girl (arguably about 14) and that was that.
“Old man Phil” ran up the wicket to a spinner and was stumped a mile and then Graham “Jack Dee” Turnbull came to the crease. He wasted no time settling in and playing some fine shots.
Nellie was given lbw by Flash which caused a 2 minute chest puffing handbag moment but a wee kiss and cuddle sorted it all out. (You were lbw tho Nellie !)
Jack Dee kept ticking along but his partners were dropping like flies. Towering Kitching, Chuckie “Duckie” Denton came and went and then Gav “Sledgehammer” Wilson who ended up 8 not out (decent effort Gav) came to the wicket. “Dee” was bowled for 30, excellent effort, and it was left to the other Twin Tower, the mighty Kev Ross who was saving the best till last. As he strolled to the centre he looked majestic and all the talk of wine, women, song and which cartoon character would you most like to ...well anyway, he swaggered out to the centre and you could smell the fear in the opposition’s eyes. This was the guy who had called 4 wides in their opening bowlers 2nd over, a man who cannot spell the word fear...... A man with whom hitting 50 or 60 would be childsplay.......
It must have been 3rd ball....in fact it was probably 2nd ball, Quack Quack Kev and we headed for tea.
After tea it felt like we were actually at T in the park with Matty and Bob, as we were equally soaked. Huge puddles formed on the wicket and that was that.
Match abandoned but as we drove away Pike was spotted fishing in the large puddle next to the wicket but I’ve no idea if he caught anything. Nice one Pike !
