Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club First Team v Kirkbrae on Sat 23 Jul 2011 at 1pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Carnegie were beaten by a strong Kirkbrae side at Pitreavie. We were probably at least 50 runs short on a decent track despite another classy innings from David Miller. The bowlers performed ok but didnt take enough wickets, a few chances also went down in the field but we won't dwell on them. Good attacking knock from Colvin won the game for Kirkbrae.
Man of the Match - David Miller
Well since Droppsie Lafferty failed to put some of the finer details of the Match in I will add this as a precurser to his report.
It was a beautiful day at Pitrevie - but the pitch had only just about recovered from Noahs Flood twp weeks prior. What a great day it would be for Captain Marvel to win the toss and Bowl....The least said about that the better...
So we were inserted to bat on a soft green wicket.
Flash and Murray C opened. Both looked in great nick but found getting the ball of the cut stip very very difficult. Flash showed some magic moments while Murray did what every opener should defend the bad ball and wait for the loose one. There werent many of them - the first loose one Murray received after about ten overs he went for the huge straight drive - unfortunately it was straight and on a good length so it hit the top of middle stump.
Hen Broon joined Philip and put on a massive 10 partnership in around 10 overs before Gordon was caught for 11.
Miller joined Hen - and both tried to run each other out - pr so it felt. Times were tough but Miller and Hynd managed to grind it out for quite a few overs not scoring many but trying to hit the bad ball. Hynd finally got caught out in around the 29th over. The score was about 60 at this stage.
Phil came out and told Miller the target of the remaining 21 overs was to get to 200!!!!!!
So Phil set about the attack - maiden after maiden followed - then Phil smacked a four..and played a few other nice shots before being caught out fot 9.
Matty "Pinch Hitter" Wauchop was sent in to accelerate - and that he did whacking the ball around a bit - one a cracking shot over mid on for four....Unfortunately next over he managed to get his box onto a straight one and with "too honest" Flash umpiring Matty was given out BBW.
Butch came into Bat....Miller tried to accelerate things but on the difficult track only managed in skying the ball and being caught for 43.
"Cant catch a colvin" Lafferty came into bat and showed us all how its done - nudging ones and twos here there and everywhere....straight to a fielder...one...straight to the bowler...one...Murray then unfortunately got bowled after looking solid for 9. Gav Ross came in and finished not out on 3 while Matt "I dont play for my average by batting at 8" Lafferty finished 9 not out. (he did bat well and sensibly thought) Final score 132 for 7.
Onto the Fielding - with Kirkbraes strong batting line up we were always up against it.
Butch and Matty W opened the bowling - both bowled well. Butch got opener Smith out early on for 7 which gave was a great start - after changing ends he then got Bukes for a quack - caught behing by Hen Broon - who after 4 hours at the cricket was still sweating alcohol. Colvin was the only Kirkbrae batsman looking like scoring - the pitch had dried up a lot and the outfield a lot faster.
He set about the attack.
Skipper Ross brought himself into the attack and bowled a tight spell before taking himself off after around 2 overs....
Richard Kitching - finally got to bowl.....We were on the edge of our seats in his first over - first nut - looked good....then....I wouldnt call it a beamer as it was too high.....Hen took it above his head - and since Hen is 9 foot tall you can guess how high it was. Then out of nowhere Richard took his first wicket for the club - a almost full length ball (6metres short) which Kirkbraes most prolific batsman Sangster went after and whacked up in the air.....under it was Pike for the week Philip - who took the catch and Sansgter was wandering back to the pavillion wondering what could have been - it was a solid looking 1.
In Richards next over he claimed another wicket after a big ben high beamer - clean bowling Gandhe with an absolute peach of a ball for 4. Richard was taken out the attack - 2 wickets to his name - but needing a bit more match practise after years out to get back to his best.
Flash was brought into the attack as was Pringle - both bowled tightly - but Colvin by this time was in a domineering mood and whacked anything loose to the boundary.
Pringle Patel for 11 with a beautiful flighted delivery - then his next ball at Blake looked to be plumb LBW however the appeal was turned down.....tv evidence later showed the ball would have gone into the rabbit hole in front of the stumps and come out the otherside.
Blake and Colvin saw it through......
It was a good bowling and fielding performance to restrict and hold back a strong Kirkbrae line up - we were in the game with the Badgers around 80 for 5 at one stage. Colvin was dropped by slip.....Ill let you guess who by when he was on around 20 (it was a slow motion moment) - while he was also dropped by the keeper later on...to be fair to Matt Ill let you guess who that was too...
Anyway Kirkbrae on this form will be deserving league winners.....
Carnegie severely missed Nelly for his grass cutting and mowing.....
Other points of note
Phil used his hands once to stop a ball....
Flash took two Pikesh catches...
Muzz had clean whites...
Onwards to Peffermill next week where a win is a must...........
