Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 7 runs
Match report
Carnegie and Broomhall enjoyed a balanced and well contested pre season warm up on a sunny springs day at Goose Green
With Broomhall electing to bat first, it was a chance for the Carnegie bowlers to get some early season game practice. With stand in skipper Butch opening with Wauchop, it was clear to see the pitch was slow and shots were scored off the back foot. Butch picked up the wicket of Gudgin in his first over, with a splendidly held one handed catch from the Don behind the stumps. "why make it look harder than it is" - quote of the day
Vignesh replaced Butch at the top end and showed terrific pace, line and control throughout his spell. Two wickets from Viggy, including drawing a knick from the dangerous Greenall, scourge and destroyer of Carnegie in the 2010 league game at Pitreavie. Viggy was ably supported by Flash who showed his terrific length time and again , impressing both men and women at the ground and leaving some weak at the knees. 7 overs for only 8 runs, picking up 2 wickets.
Nelly had a go off one leg, and was quickly replaced by "subcontinental" Goody who after a "skimmer" then a "slow beamer" (now known as a "sleamer") - he found some more control. Although expensive, this man has a terrific strike rate, and picked up 2 for 21 in only 3 overs of explosive stuff. Bruce took off his Clark Kent glasses, and after being pointend in the general direction of the strip, he bowled some good stuff, and some less good stuff. One couldnt figure out if the "bumpers" were a specific tactic, or a show of rust.
Broomhall were guided to a competitive totaly of 165 by the ever reliable Seath who was helped home by the explosive "one shot and I like it" Goodchild.
A tea of festive easter cakes were enjoyed as Broomhall attempted to plump up Carnegie in a bid to hamper their response
In response, Carnegie meandered through the first 8 overs for only 12 runs as openers Lindsay and Callan ensured that we had wicketsin hand to chase down a victory at the death. Callan, who had elected to wear his spectacles for this effort, then opened up and struck 4 successive boundaries as Carnegie fired up to the 50 mark in the 14th over. Lindsay fell, and Lee replaced him. After a shaky start, where Lee made his bat resemble Harry Potters first attempt to conquer his broom for a quiddich match, he struck a few runs. This unsettled Clark Kent, and when word broke of a mugging in nearby Gotham, he relinquished his wicket, bringing Mark "more comebacks than hulk hogan" philip to the crease. jamie and phil had a couple of overs where they, lets say, "settled in", before phil went about his old ways and started to boff the ball around the park, like the Pied Piper in a division 8 match.
Murray joined Phil when Lee ran out of luck on over 26 and Carnegie needed 81 off 84 balls to chase down victory. Butch scored with consistency and aplomb and breezed his way to 35. Phil went for 28 (i better say he scored a six), and Philp and Wauchop went quickly too.
It fell to "the don" to support Butch to victory, and he pushed through a few singles, to allow Butch to smash 6, 4, 6 and reach 52.
Carnegie needed 10 off the last over. Don was run out chasing a dream, and Vignesh was caught off the last ball, trying to score 8! Spare a thought for "not out, not faced 0" Goody, who enters the race to the pond in the cruelest of fashions
Good day, nice beer, drive home. Roll on Saturday
From the West, Hugh Keevins........
