Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Dunfermline Carnegie recorded their first win in a month against EUS in Edinburgh on Saturday. Prospects for play looked grim as the rain came down all the way across. The Three Amigo’s returned from Spain looking refreshed and in Gary’s case slightly dazed. Carnegie won the toss and Mitch decided to bowl first despite the insistence of Neil Harris that we bat first. Matt and Gary opened up with good accuracy and were backed up by some excellent fielding. Wickets fell quickly at regular intervals as EUS crashed to 22-5 off 25 overs. Mitch upset Harris by dropping a catch off his bowling off the last ball before drinks. After drinks the bowlers were rotated (Nelly had clearly earned his chance during the week judging by the photos) and runs began to come with a bit more ease. EUS reached 76-5 before Mitch was finally rewarded with a couple of wickets. At the other end Graham went through the tail in double quick time to finish with 3-17. EUS finished on 113 all out in 49 overs. An excellent effort in the field spearheaded by the excellent Bob Hunter who was an example to us all. In reply Neil and Graham opened and put on 50 odd quite quickly the highlight being Grahams massive straight six. Both openers fell in their 20s leading to a mini collapse as Gary, Pike and Matt found new and interesting ways to get out. At 95-5 Carnegie were in dire trouble but up stepped Captain David Mitchell and the vastly experienced and criminally underrated Matt Lafferty to guide the good ship Carnegie home thanks to a series of clever singles.
A very good team performance by Carnegie with everyone contributing. The fielding was excellent and the catching superb. The batting was mostly sensible with a few exceptions (Matt W). Man of the Match was Graham for an aggressive 25 at the top of the order coupled with 3-17 with the ball. Bob Hunter was runner-up.
Next week we are at home to Kismet.
