Kinross v Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Midweek 8 a side on Tue 20 May 2008 at 6.30pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost Kinross win by 50 runs
Match report
Carnegie travelled up to Kinross tonight to a splendid setting at Kinross house.
Lovely outfield, but ropey track. Lafferty won the toss and elected to bowl
Nelly and Harris opened the bowling with good rhythym and both bowlers both economically and got a wicket. That was until Nellys last over, which was loose to say the least. 1 for 21 for Walker off 4 overs and 1 for 6 for Harris off 2 overs
Harris was replaced the Graham Lindsay. Graham bowled with line and length and picked up a good wicket for few runs. 1 for 13 off his four overs, good bowling backed up by good fielding.
Debut boy Owen Goody replaced Walker from the tricky bottom end and mixed good balls and bad balls. He saved his best for last in his third and final over, a cracking catch in the deep from Graham giving Owen his first Carnegie wicket. 1 for 37 off 3 for Goody. Less wides and his score would have been much better, as the batsmen struggled with his good balls
Bob came on at the top end to replace Graham, and looked the part from the off. He clean bowled the Kinross batsmen middle stump en route to his maiden Carnegie over being a wicket maiden! How about that! He continued to bowl well and keep his discipline even when the batsmen were looking to score. 1 for 18 off 4 for Hunter.
Once Owen was done, Josh came on to bowl at the bottom end to finish the 20 overs. He bowled with discipline, and a smile on his face. I cant remember his figures, Matty will load the score, but he took his first career wicket, trapping the batsmen LBW. Josh described the experience as "rave".
So, Carnegie restricted Kinross to 119 for 6 off 20 overs. A few too many wides, but great fielding and application.
In the chase, Bob and Harris were sent out to see us off. It was Bob who left the charge, scoring a 3 in the first over and a cracking leg side clip for 4 in the second over. Sadly, Bob tried to repeat the leg glance for the next ball, as it clipped off.
Graham L was next in, and he started by driving well. He was enjoying the rapid outfield and hit two cracking drives to the boundary.
Harris fell for a low score at the other end, and this brought Nelly "bombscare" Walker to the crease. Nelly and Graham looked like they had never met each other, culminating in Nelly running Graham out shortly after.
Nelly was joined by Owen, and they put on a couple of runs for the fourth wicket. Rather than see off the opening bowler, Nelly attempted a silly sweep off his last ball, only to be given out by Michael "Dickie Bird" Hunter. for LBW.
Owen then hit a cracker to point for four but was bowled next ball. 36 for 5, and Carnegie were creaking.
This led Lafferty and Barney to romp on with a 30 odd partnership. For a while, it looked as if Carnegie may have a chance of sneaking to the 119 total. Barney was playing some nice drives, and Lafferty was playing balls wisely into space.
Sadly, Barney fell playing a shot long before the ball was there, and was bowled.
This brought Josh to the crease, and he was bossed into a short partnership by Lafferty, who batted well. Josh was unlucky to be bowled for a hard earned 0, and Laffert finished not out. Carnegie amased 69, and fell 50 runs short
The first game went exactly to plan. Give everyone a chance.
This writer feels that apportioning the blame for the defeat on the unlucky Walker is somewhat harsh. Walker then bought everyone a pint to apologise for running our in form batsmen out.
We move onto next week and a home match versus our old foes Townhill. Fun and games.
