Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Carnegie Comets shocked the cricketing world with a stunning victory against heavily fancied Glenrothes Gladiators at Hippo Park last nite. Carnegie won the toss on a balmy evening in Glenrothes and asked Glenrothes to bat. Bob Hunter took the new ball and struck in the first over, bowling Snook with a fast yorker. After bowling a maiden Bob showed that he has the mindset to become a Carnegie fast bowler when he decided to add 10 yards to his run up. The resulting wide and a word in his ear from Mitch brought Bob back to reality. At the other end Division 4's leading wicket taker bowled his stock ball and was smashed for 4, he bowled his slow ball and was whakced for 4, he bowled a ridiculous bouncer which was thumped for 4. Mitch out of the attack after 2 overs for 18 - Bob 4 overs for only 10 runs including a wicket. Bongo entered the attack and bowled with pace while 'Shunts' was banjoed for 33 in his first 2 overs. Stevie came back brilliantly to bowl his next 2 overs for only 2 runs. Lafferty bowled 2 stunning overs of wrist spin for only 5 runs but it was Bream's leg spin that stole the show as he picked up 2-11 of 3 overs with his fizzing deliveries. We had pegged Glenrothes back from 74-1 off 10 overs to 107-5 off 20 overs.
In reply we lost Mitch and Graham early and were wobbling at 19-2. Into the crisis ambled Bob 'Grunts' Hunter with his light sabre. Bob proceded to 'poke' the ball to all parts of the square as he balzed his way to a magnificent 8 before he was caught and bowled - a heroic effort. Frank got his first Carnegie runs for 11 years - a run drought to envy some of Nelly's. Frank was caught in the deep bringing Lafferty to the wicket and together with Ally set about turning the innings round. Some clever placement and good running got Carnegie back into contention as the partnership passed 50. Ally was out with 2 needed off the last 3 balls, a quick leg bye followed by a brillaint four down the ground from a mildly excited Bream got Carnegie home with only one ball to spare to spark wild celebrations amongst the travelling players.
From a personal point of view it was my first win at Hippo Park after 17 years of trying. Everyone contributed in different ways although Bob was quick to award Mitch the TFC award. Man of the Match was shared by Ally and Bream.
It was back to the Malky for a celebration shandy during which time Mitch got propositioned by a burd on behalf of her mother - fair play.
