Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Midweek 8 a side v Broomhall on Tue 22 Jul 2008 at 6.30pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 49 runs
Carnegie Comets were narrowly pipped by Broomhall at Pitreavie on Tuesday nite. The defeat ended the Comets chances of making the Fife Premier League Grand Final at Kinross. There is no doubt that the Final will be a poorer spectacle without the Comets and their unique brand of kamikazee and high energy 20-20 cricket.
On winning the toss Carnegie elected to field. It looked an unwise choice as the wicket was playing with consistent bounce and Nelly and Bob were smacked for a flurry of boundaries. Bob responded with a vicious short ball that bowled Bell of his body for 24. Hoefling was soon snapped up by a Josh at square leg for 23. This brought together 'veterans' Warren and Glasgow who took advantage of some rotten bowling and crap fielding to move the score along freely. It was left to the wrist spin of Lafferty to peg the rate back!! Bob eventually returned to have Warren caught behind for 41 but Glasgow finished unbeaten on 45 as Broomhall closed on 172-3 off 20 overs.
Carnegie were confident that they could chase 173 on a good wicket with a short boundary on one side and a huge boundary on the other. Lindsay and Lafferty got Carnegie off to a solid start and Graham was just getting into his stride when he was caught at mid off for 18. In came Nelly at 3 and he smacked a quickfire 23 including 3 4's before being bowled. Bream arrived and smacked 8 in no time before being caught bringing Frank to the wicket. Frank proved himself a true Carnegie man by getting injured after one ball and needing a runner - Gav was said to be very jealous of this. Frank perished for 3 bringing in Bob. Lafferty decided to tee off and finally hit a boundary before eventually being clean bowled for 46 in the seventeeth over. Bob and Stevie batted the overs out well with some excellent running between the wickets as Carnegie finished on 123-5 off 20 overs.
A great effort with the bat but rather sloppy in the field was the verdict. A very enjoyable season of FPL cricket came to an end. Here's to 2009!!
