SMRH II v Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club First Team on Sat 30 May 2009 at 1pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
A brilliant team effort spearheaded by the belligerent David 'Lord' Mitchell could not prevent Carnegie from slumping to a 4 wicket defeat at Inverleith. On a beautiful day at a fantastic ground skipper Mitch had no hesitation in losing the toss and batting first. Carnegie got off to a flyer as Lafferty and Lindsay took the score to 30 odd before Lindsay was LBW for 14. Lafferty and Honeyford saw off the new ball and Lafferty struck a massive ‘5’ before being adjudged LBW off the bat for 19. Mitch and Pike enjoyed a very good partnership of 46 with Pike playing some cracking shots before departing for 35. Mitch was playing the skippers role to perfection and slipped effortlessly through the gears. Normally a very good runner between the wickets the heat seemed to affect Mitch as he ran out Gav and Nelly in quick succession. Monty came and went before Ralph partnered Mitch to stumps with Carnegie on 153-6. Mitch finished on a fluent 51 not out.
Most of the players were glad to get out of the heat and enjoy a relaxed tea except Gav Ross who stripped down to his jock strap and lathered himself in chip fat. What a lovely sight.
SMRH got off to a solid start before Nelly clean bowled the opener. Gav was gradually bowling himself back into form and bowling with menace but no luck. The introduction of Mitch brought a couple of wickets while Monty bowled beautifully with no luck whatsoever. Mitch had to rotate his bowlers and runs flowed steadily. Only two catches went to hand and these were both gratefully accepted by Pike and Ralph. In the end it took a very good innings of 53 not out from Hannam to see SMRH to a four wicket victory.
An excellent game to play in. The Carnegie fielding was excellent with Donald, Ralph and Jamie excelling. Bob ‘Frenchie’ Hunter was a revelation behind the stumps and clearly stuck a (bruised) finger up to his many critics (Rooster and Goose). Mitch managed to sneak the Man of the Match again for his batting, bowling and all round caddishness.
A very enjoyable day was rounded off with the annual trip to Johnston’s Cocktail Bar.
TFC is shared by Mitch and Nelly. Mitch for running out the entire middle order and Nelly for giving me out LBW and developing a no ball problem.
Over and out.
