Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club First Team v Edinburgh Uni Staff on Sat 06 Jun 2009 at 1pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Won by 51 runs
Match report
The game was delayed by an hour due to heavy rain giving us the chance to watch Scotland in the 20:20 World Cup. Mitch lost the toss (again) and Carnegie were asked to bat on a wet track. Lafferty, Lindsay and Mitchell departed early leaving the veteran duo of Honeyford and Harris to restore order. Both batted responsibly and were really beginning to open up when Harris was trapped LBW for 20. The 'Comeback Kid' Gary Steward was next but clearly didn't fancy the cold and promptly ran himself out for not very many and returned to reading his style magazine. Matt Wauchop was next but he played a very, very rash shot and we all new that the bucket was going to get it. Pike was eventually out caught behind for 39 closely followed by Nelly for a duck. At 96-8 with Gav looking absolutely clueless 100 looked a long way away. Thankfully Monty give Gav a brief batting lesson and 28 were plundered in the last few overs to give Carnegie a total of 124-8. Monty will be giving batting lessons this week!!
Carnegie had the same strong bowling attack that had failed to deliver in previous games so Mitch was apprehensive as he gave the new ball to the Brothers Grimm. Thankfully Gav was in the groove from the off and picked up two quick wickets to put EUS on the back foot. Some economical bowling from Rooster, Mitch and Matt kept the pressure on and paved the way for Monty to star with an excellent 3-16 from his 7 overs. He was so good he even applauded himself at the end of his spell (watch for Wauchop, Ross and Ross doing this in the coming weeks). All the bowlers picked up a wicket and for once they bowled as a unit. The fielding was excellent with all catches taken for the third successive weekend.
Man of the Match was Monty and TFC was awarded to Kevin Ross. Kevin deliberately missed a run out in order to make sure he got a second spell with the ball!!
