Kirk Brae v Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club First Team on Sat 20 Jun 2009 at 1pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Carnegie followed up last weekend’s win over Haddington with an impressive victory over Kirkbrae in Edinburgh. Carnegie were missing several players and at one stage on Friday night only had nine players although we then managed to end up with twelve which was fairly typical. On arrival at the Malky we were treated to the spectacle of Posh Josh decking a pint while pace ace Ally Cameron enjoyed a tomato juice.
On arrival at Double Hedges Road we surveyed a wicket that looked rather like the one at Pitreavie. Mitch managed to win the toss and wisely decided to bowl first – what a decision that proved to be!! The first ball went for 5 wides which was not the best start but after that Bongo settled into a fine spell of fast bowling. In his opening spell Ally claimed 3-15 off 7 accurate overs. The catching was once again brilliant with Jason taking a stunner behind the wicket and Posh Josh holding onto a screamer at mid off. Josh has introduced ‘Gangsta Catchin’ to Carnegie this summer. Nelly was a bit wayward so on came Mitch who the batsman seemed determined to have a go at. Unfortunately for the batsman that was easier said than done and Mitch conceded 1 run in his first six overs as well as picking up regular wickets. Mitch finished with 3-17 from his 10 overs. Nelly got one LBW decision but was rather expensive as his nine overs were belted for 65. Monty went right through the tail as he took 2-7 off his three overs aided by a brilliant catch from Lafferty at extra cover. Special mention for Scotland international Bob Hunter who took the last wicket caught by Pikey at short mid off. Bowling Kirkbrae out for 110 in 29 overs was a brilliant effort with the ground fielding and catching of the highest order.
In reply Carnegie lost GL and Pikey early doors but were steadied by Lafferty and Mitchell who took the score into the forties. Both were unlucky to be caught off the glove especially Lafferty who looked very assured in making his 22. Bongo came and went for a breezy 7 while Monty didn’t hang around for too long. This left Carnegie at 65-6 and staring at a defeat. The whole impetus of the game was changed when the returning Jason smashed a sweet six over the mid wicket boundary. Both Nelly and Jason began to look increasingly assured and began to inch Carnegie towards their target. Sensible cricket was the name of the day as the duo refused to succumb to some high quality bowling. Carnegie edged up to 110-6 and after 16 dot balls Nelly scampered the winning single. A great win for Carnegie with Nelly finishing on 30 not out and Jason 13 not out.
A tremendous team effort in the field coupled with excellent bowling from Bongo, Mitch and Monty. The catching was great while the ground fielding was spearheaded by Posh Josh. Batting wise we did wobble but the partnership between Nelly and Jason was of the highest order.
Great stuff!!!
Scorecard will follow once it can be retrieved from the back of the skipper’s car. Could be tricky as he was last seen dancing in a pair of flip-flops, shell suit bottoms and his cricket jumper!!
