Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Midweek 8 a side v Townhill on Tue 19 May 2009 at 6.30pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 57 runs
Match report
Carnegie crashed to defeat at a soaking wet Pitreavie tonite. A solid fielding performance kept the runs down with excellent leg spin bowling from Monty Urolagin and James 'D-ream' Bream. The other bowlers toiled manfully in difficult decisions. Lafferty took a brilliant diving catch the ball after dropping a similar chance and also contributed a stunning direct hit run out off his own bowling.
In reply Carnegie were soon in bother when Walker was run out for a 9 ball duck. Only Niall and Kev can explain the shocking episode that followed.... Barney was soon caught and Bream bowled. Parsonage hit his first runs for the Club before being undone by the pitch. Monty played some lovely shots including one tremendous flick off his legs, unfortunately Monty is still coming to terms with the slowness of Scottish outfields meaning I ran 4 to his 2!! Monty was unlucky to be caught and bowled bringing together Laffery and Goody. A fighting partnership of 30 followed as Murray went wicketless for his 4 overs. Goody produced some memorable shots including a cracking cover drive for 3. Goody was bowled for an excellent 12 leaving Lafferty and Hunter to try and see out the overs. Hunter was caught and bowled in the last over to leave the Comets 58 all out.
A good effort in the field and some good bowling kept the Townhill run rate down. Early wickets meant winning was a forelone hope but Goody, Urolagin and Hunter showed tremendous application to give the final result a degree of respectability. The pitch was very, very difficult to bat on after the rain in the first innings while the outfield slowed as the game went on.
Onwards and upwards!!
