Broomhall v Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Midweek 8 a side on Tue 16 Jun 2009 at 6.30pm
Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club Lost Broomhall win by 67 runs
Match report
It was all change at the top for the Comets tonight with the shock news that skipper Lafferty was unfit to play due to a horrific toe injury sustained in the Scotland game.
Walker was called up to lead the side, who welcomed Vignesh in for debut
A gentlemans agreement put Broomhall in first, and Carnegie opened up with Walker from the top end. After a loose first over from both Nelly and Viggy - both bowlers came back with a bang in their second overs. Walker bowled the dangerous bell and Viggy forced Warren to spoon a catch to a grateful Mitchell.
Viggy twisted his ankle in his 2nd over and had to come off
(If anyone has spare size 9 cricket shoes - Viggy needs a pair!)
This brought Mitchell on from the bottom end. Mitch fancied chasing down a high total, so he proceeded to "create a competitive total" before improving in his last 2 overs.
After Walker finished up, Bream came on from the top end, and despite being hit for an early six, he took a superb wicket through bravely flighting the ball and taking off stump.
Bob "one cap" Hunter then swapped places with Mitch who took over the keeping duties.
An unbelievable over then ensued - Bob's first ball was latched upon and speared to long off, where the reliable Walley snaffled a good catch.
Carnegie were pleased to have 3 down quickly, but we were soon celebrating again
Bob's next ball was full and straight, and he dismissed the new batsmen for a golden duck. One Cap was in his pomp, but Mushy got behind his hat trick ball and denied Bob a hat trick
Carnegie were again on fire in the field, with Punter Parsonage in form. The best fielder was easily Donald, who took a huge blow in the goolies whilst fighting for the cause, which required treatment from Mike Warren
Owen was given the graveyard shift of the last two overs from the top end, and was betrayed by some Bambi style fielding from Walker, who slipped to allow Broomhall 2 boundaries. Brave work from Owen for doing the hard yards at the end
We almost bowled them out, but Broomhall got 152 on a fabulous track
Mitchell and Walker opened up for the Comets, and Walker was a mere spectator for the first 5 overs as Mitchell took the opening bowlers to pieces. 4s were a plenty, before Mitchell mustered his first ever "proper" 6 straight back over the bowlers head.
Broomhall could see they were in a game and brought on two more senior bowlers in Glasgow and Mushy. Mushy did for Mitchell in his 2nd over, with a good catch by Bell behind the stumps - 42 quick fire runs for Dave as he escapes the TFC award for once
Mitchell was last heard declaring "it was there for it" which drew a few smiles
James "pinch hitter" Bream came in at 3, and he and Walker began fluently before Nelly (who had clearly had too much sugar that day) - ran 2 before James had completed his first run, and Walker left run out for 16.
Bream followed quickly as I was dismantling the changing room so I am unsure as to he got out
Goody then kept up his form by battering a boundary through the covers and adding a few more before failing to back up quickly and being run out. Slow off the gun, and something for Thursday practice.
The Don, who had rediscovered his "MOJO" hit a belter of an off drive for a 4 and a few more on top before losing his wicket.
Viggy, in pain for his ankle twist, lost out cheaply as he was caught. But, overall, it was great to see Viggy finally onb debut. Promising bowling, a good catch off Bream and solid in the field
The final pairing were One Cap and Punter. Both showed their increasing ability by starting slowly (as per captains orders) and then looking to score runs. Punter showed some classy drives and flicks, whilst One Cap was beginning to use better footwork
One Cap fell valiantly in the 14th over looking to achieve the required 10 and over to secure victory
A privilege to captain the team, vastly improving each week
Great to see Viggy make debut
Need to practice running between the wickets at nets
Thanks to Matty Laff for coming down to umpire the whole game, and to Graham, my old man and JBT for coming to support - really appreciated by the boys.
Man of the match goes to Donald who is our most improved player this week.
No TFC as this captain looks to gain popularity with his troops
A good night
